ROCKY POINT BEACH - EXPERIENCE NIRVANA FOR YOURSELF
Are you ready to explore the many lifestyle options of Rocky Point? Life here is never dull! In one day, you can visit the beach, play a round of golf, then check out the night life and dance the night away. If the idea of a Rocky Point lifestyle appeals to you, read on.
Puerto Penasco, affectionately referred to as Rocky Point, has been called a seaside gem by many. Those who have visited its soft sandy beaches and gentle shores have experienced a kind of nirvana only spoken of in literature.
Once a small, sleepy fishing village, Rocky Point is now a world-class tourist destination that boasts tranquility, natural beauty, and luxury amenities. Dine on the freshest seafood you’ve ever tasted right at the ocean’s edge. Spend the day deep sea fishing, snorkeling, parasailing, scuba diving, or skipping through a crystal clear tide pool. At night, watch the sun set over the azure water and feel your cares slip away.
There are so many amazing things to do in Rocky Point, but here are our top three:
Rocky Point Beaches
One of the nicest things about living in Rocky Point is having access to some of the best beaches in the world. There’s nothing like taking a leisurely stroll and digging your toes into the soft, warm sand, then laying a blanket down and catching some rays. Well, Rocky Point has plenty of gorgeous beaches to choose from. Gently sloping into the Sea of Cortez is Sandy Beach, where most of the big luxury resorts reside. This area tends to draw crowds and is a great place to “see and be seen.” If you want a beach where you and your family can hang out all day BBQing, head to Las Conchas [link to las conchas page]. Besides barbeques, there are also some nice palapas when you need a break from the sun. And, when you want a beach all to yourself, head to Playa Encanta, which is on the other side of a large estuary from Las Conchas. Fewer houses line Playa Encanta, and it’s also a bit of a drive out of town to get to. So, if you’re a nature lover who seeks a bit of privacy now and then, Playa Encanta may become your second home.
Rocky Point Golf
All golfers know that playing a round (or two) is often the best way to take in the natural beauty of a surrounding landscape. That’s certainly true in Rocky Point. Early mornings in Rocky Point are something to behold. The colors on the horizon slowly change as lapping ocean waves and sea birds are heard in the distance. What are some of the best courses to play in Rocky Point? There are really three main golf courses to choose from:
Vidanta Peninsula de Cortez Golf Club
If you like your golf challenging, this is the course for you. This course is a Nicklaus Legacy design boasting 18 holes that offer a stunning view of the Sea of Cortez. Pro shop, putting green and a bar and restaurant offer you a perfect afternoon.
The Links at Las Palomas
This 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course is at the very center of the Rocky Point resort area. Manicured greens combined with windswept terrain make for a remarkable day of golf.
The Club at Laguna del Mar
A Nicklaus Signature course, The Club at Laguna del Mar offers 9 spectacular holes smack dab in the middle of saltwater estuaries. All of the beauty and wild life around you may distract you, but it’s totally worth it. And if the surreal beauty doesn’t throw you off your game, all of those traps just might!
Puerto Penasco Nightlife
When the sun goes down in Rocky Point, the bars and restaurants comes alive. Here are some of our favorite late night spots worth checking out:
Wrecked at the Reef
Wrecked is one of those big, casual joints that make you feel good the moment you step inside. Out at the far end of Sandy Beach, Wreck’s outdoor patio slopes gently toward the waves. It makes for the perfect spot to have cocktails or a late-night snack. There’s also a dance floor and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
Uno Mas at Las Palmas
Those who live in Rocky Point or visit here often know about this gem. A beautiful and intimate palapa-roofed bar, Uno Mas is the perfect spot to grab a drink and just relax. Be sure to go on the weekend because the bartender, Ricardo Rivera, tends to like to belt out some great tunes while strumming his guitar.
The Malecon
Our personal favorite way to spend an evening in Rocky Point is to hang out in the Malecon, the city’s big outdoor gathering place. This is where families come on summer evenings to enjoy the cool breezes off the water. There is ice cream and street food vendors, musicians, local artists, it’s a casual and excellent way to spend an evening with your family. Just up the street are fantastic seafood restaurants and tacky touristy gift shops.
Rocky Point sounds like the perfect vacation destination doesn’t it? But what if you could extend your vacation longer or even indefinitely?
